Alan Turing and Apple Inc.

"But he was also an eccentric and troubled man who was persecuted (and prosecuted) for being gay, a tragedy that contributed to his suicide just short of the age of 42 when he died of cyanide poisoning, possibly from a half-eaten apple found by his side."

John Ferrier Turing

From what I can find, Apple Inc. has nothing to do with this and the name and logo are coincidental, though it would be interesting if it had. Early logo designs indicate the theme was Newton's apple, not Turing's.

As usual, the true story is less and more interesting than imagining. The rainbow color, nothing to do with a gay subtext and the bite out of the apple, totally for scale so it didn't look like a cherry.

"Also it was kind of iconic about taking a bite out of an apple. Something that everyone can experience. It goes across cultures."
